CFK Book Drive to Help Kids with Literacy
~ All Kids Need Books to Succeed #NickCFK #CBias ~
As you might remember from my first post about the Nickelodeon Big Help Book Drive SIMPLE Service Project from Champions for Kids, we were asking families at my daughter’s gymnastics place (RISE Gym) to donate new or gently used books for kids in need. If you are not familiar with Champions for Kids, then you need to check them out. They are a wonderful organization that helps to initiate different drives to help kids in communities with all types of needs they may have (food, toiletries, healthy eating, school supplies, and much more). This month was focused on literacy and helping to get more books in the hands of kids that cannot afford them. My daughter really wanted us to make our donation to our local library so we could help everyone in the community have more books, and the library is always looking for quality donations.
We had a week to collect books at the gym! We made signs, put out a bin, and got the word out to help others! Our goal (created by my daughter) was to overflow the bin! Well, a week later and we did just that! We were so excited to reach our goal!
We Started Off the Donation Bin with Seven Dora Books!
And This was the Bin a Week Later ~ Overflowing!!!
We thanked Rise Gym for helping us with our donation collection and loaded the car! Next we took the books home, counted up the donation, and called the library to make sure they would accept the donation (we had a plan B if needed). Well, the library was more than happy to accept our generous donation so we headed on over! Ms. Leanne, the Children’s Librarian, was super excited about receiving the donation and assured us the books would be put to good use and help serve many kids in need throughout East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
Kendal Counted Up and We Had 250 Books to Donate!!!
Ms. Leanne Gave Kendal a High Five for Selecting the
East Greenwich Free Library for the Donation!
We were very happy to have participated in the Nickelodeon Big Help Book Drive SIMPLE Service Project from Champions for Kids! Collecting 250 books for the cause was super exciting! We love helping kids in our community and we appreciate Rise Gym for helping with collecting books and the East Greenwich Free Library to make sure they are put to good use and in the hands of kids in need. And don’t forget that you can help in your community as well! Every donation helps no matter the size of the donation. You can be one of the millions and help Champions for Kids reach their goal of 20 million by 2020!
To view our entire shopping trip at Walmart to create a donation bin and purchase some books to start it out, check it out on the Google+ Story we created. We found some great Dora books from Nickelodeon to start us off!
Don’t forget to check out Champions for Kids on their site, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as Nickelodeon on Facebook and Twitter.
Education and sports both take exposure, hard work, and the right materials and access to them! Strive to work your hardest at both and be your best; that’s what we try and teach our kids! Have fun and work hard to accomplish your goals in life!
