Tropical Splash Birthday Treat for the Summer
~ TCBY Tropical Blizzards ~
I just turned 38 year old, as you read in my earlier post. My husband was out-of-town for work, so the kids and I decided we would make our own blizzard treats to celebrate my summer birthday! It was in the high 90’s that day, so too hot to bake a cake in the oven. We shopped at Walmart for the ingredients. We love Walmart because we can get everything we need there, including dinner at Subway on the way out!
We cherish summertime because we get to be together as a family all day! Our big thing to do is go to the pool. It’s pretty expensive to join, so we make sure we go often! It is only a couple of minutes from our house so coming and going is not a problem. We like to do summertime celebrations there as well. My daughter is thinking of having her 8th birthday party there next month. It’s easy to bring treats over there, even frozen treats since it’s just a couple minutes away. My daughter loved the TCBY Tropical Blizzards we created for my birthday, so I told her we could make some again for her birthday as well!
TCBY frozen yogurt is a healthy way to have a sweet treat! They have many different flavors; strawberry swirl, tropical mango peach, cookie dough, mint chocolate chunk, classic vanilla bean, and many more! They range in calories from only about 110-150 a serving! That is awesome for a yummy frozen summer treat! I can even have it while dieting by factoring in my calories!
At Walmart we were in search of the tropical mango peach, but since they were out we got the classic vanilla bean and decided to purchase some fresh mangoes and peaches to get that tropical twist. We also got some Smarties because blizzards always have that bit of candy pieces for the crunch factor.
My kids were so excited about making these blizzards for the birthday celebration! They said they wanted to make a movie while we were making them, so I figured why not? It would be fun to do and fun for my readers to see us make them too!
Here is what we used to make our TBCY Tropical Blizzards:
2 cups of TCBY Frozen Yogurt
1/2 soy milk
1 cup of chopped mango and peach pieces
A couple handfuls of smashed Smarties pieces
Kiwi slices for the tropical garnish
To make them, we just blended together the frozen yogurt, soy milk, and fruit until the fruit was mixed in well. Then we put the smashed up Smarties in and stirred it around so we could keep the Smarties big enough to have that crunch factor. We finished them off with a little kiwi slice to garnish the cup. They were so yummy! The kids liked the TCBY frozen yogurt so much that I had to keep them from digging in as we made them.

Classic vanilla bean? I LOVE vanilla bean!!! Oh man, I cannot wait to try these TCBY. I remember them from the old days (OK, in the 80s-90s?). Where the heck have they been?
Regardless, glad to see they’re back.
I love TCBY! There are still several TCBY locations around central AR.
Ok that looks so yummy. I wrote down the recipe when we go shopping Tuesday I will be grabbing the stuff. The Kids will love this.

I didn’t know that they put candy in to give it a crunch. That’s a good idea. Those smoothies look yummy. I love fresh fruit in ice cream.
First, I feel like a big “duh!” for not knowing what TCBY actually stood for 🙂 I love their yogurt – I have fond memories of going there as a child and getting the vanilla frozen yogurt with blackberries – yum!!! So neat to see that it’s available at Wal-Mart now! This smoothie recipe looks super deelish and the kiddos and I will definitely have to try it out! Thanks for sharing!
Yummy, can’t wait to try this.
