I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune Specialty Care. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
As winter approaches and the flu season starts, it is best to protect yourself and your family. For some reason this past summer, everyone in my family was sick. It was really awful. We all passed around a horrendous cough. I had it first, passed it around to the kids and hubby, and then I got it back again. It took many trips to the Urgent Care, medications, inhalers, and extensive rest to get over this sickness. Now that we are all healthy, I really need us to stay healthy!
We already went to the free flu shot clinic at my kids’ school. Both the kids got the flu mist and my hubby and I got the shot. It’s best to do whatever you can to prevent something that could possibly be a really bad strain of the flu. We teach our kids to wash their hands often, try and keep their hands out of their mouths and eyes, and to not share eating and drinking utensils with anyone. I know you can’t keep germs away from you all the time, but doing what you can always helps.
Elizabeth Pantley, a favorite author of mine who I reviewed many of her books on my site, now has an ebooklet called, “A Parent’s Guide to Flu Season.” It’s a great resource for parents to keep their kids healthy this flu season. It has information on vaccinations, tips to stay healthy, and it provides facts about the differences between colds and flus. The e-book is super easy to download. Just go to this Facebook page and click under the picture where it says DOWNLOAD THIS E-BOOK. It’s free! It has great information to keep on hand. I really liked the chart that showed the symptoms of colds and the flu and the differences between the two. It also includes some checklists and a flu prevention quiz. Go test your knowledge! You might be surprised what you know and don’t know about the flu!
Also, check out this fantastic infographic below that gives great information about Top Tips for Flu Prevention!

Great advice! I can’t get the vaccination, since it always ends up giving me the flu, lol.
Too late! We’ve been sick for the past week. We rarely get sick in our house, but for some reason we didn’t get lucky this year! That’s a great infographic. Washing hands literally does so much to prevent illness. It’s amazing how many people skip it!
We’re going to get our flu shots this next week too. I really am trying to do whatever we need to do to all stay healthy this season!
Being sick stinks. The pedi actually gave my oldest a flu shot yesterday to try and help make sure nothing would pass to my youngest as he’s susceptible.
I worked in a childcare for the past year where everyone in my classroom (teachers and students) were always sick. Once I took over control of sanitizing the entire classroom and its contents with bleach at night, there were no more illnesses. I KNOW it was from killing germs and washing hands is the BEST way to stay healthy! Great post for his time of year.
Love those faces, lol. I’m torn on flu shots. I don’t advocate one way or the other, if you want them great…I just choose not to for myself. :/
Thanks for the reminder to get the flu shot. I need to take my dad to get his as well.
Flu season is definitely here! Flu shots all around!
Love this, it is SO important! Vaccinate, Vaccinate, Vaccinate!! The entire family have already gotten the flu shot over here… well, the kids get the flu mist because they hate needles! 🙂
Looking back, I should have gotten my family a flu shot or the mist. My daughter and husband have already had the flu 🙁 Great info.
so many great tips just in time for flu and cold season!!
I LOVE the picture of your kids. I am paranoid about me and anyone in my family getting the flu each season. We wash hands like crazy.
Love the picture of the not happy kids up top!
Mitch
I just hate it when our little ones get sick… Little Miss has allergy induced asthma, so when she gets a cold it goes right to her lungs and she has major issues 🙁
Great tips! Addie has the shot… just Dave and I need to get it together. Thank you for the MUCH NEEDED reminder!
Both my girls had the flu this week! BOTH! We’ve had the shot before but opted out this year for they got it anyway….I just never know what to do. This is a great post to help with that decision.
I worry so much about this every season, we do our best to stay healthy. Like the info graphic.
