Preparing to Be a Mom with Kids in School Full-Time

Well, the time has come. I officially have no more babies. And I am not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I am super sad I will not have little ones at home with me this school year, but on the other hand since I have a full-time job now it will definitely give me a quieter home to work from. I always knew I would be back to work by the time my youngest was in school all day, but those “baby years” sure did fly by fast. Heck, I haven’t even lost my “baby weight” yet! LOL! Yes, I am still blaming my 6-year old for my extra weight. Only kidding. It’s all me and my sweets addiction, but I am currently working on it and down 7 pounds as we speak.

Preparing to Be a Mom with Kids in School Full-Time

Having more time for me could mean:

More time to exercise and focus on me

More time to work on eating healthier

More time to work without the guilt of trying to hang out with the kids

More time to pick-up around the house

More time to read and focus on me

More time to get my house organized (I need to get to those “everything closets” and the garage)

This is my plan and I am hopefully sticking to it! I will start out slow with some goals and that should help. For instance, I need to exercise at least three times a week and choose just one area a week to clean out. Are you at home with the kids out of the house during the day? How did you deal with this change? I feel like this puts me in an entire new phase of my life. I need to embrace it and be proud of my beautiful children and adore them for who they are at these ages of 6 and 9. Mourning the toddler stage will only make them feel bad, and it’s not good for me either. I need to move gracefully into “Mom with Kids in School Full-Time!”

  1. The look on their faces is priceless! 🙂 My kids feel the same way. And I haven’t lost my baby weight yet either.. my youngest is 11 and the oldest is 25. lol As much as I love and adore my kids (and I work outside the home full-time), I still miss them when they go back to school.. but I do love have those few and far between alone moments too.

  2. I am so excited that school started this week for us. My kids are thrilled to be back at school and I am loving the little bit of extra time.

  3. I am still blaming my kid for my baby weight, too! Oh, and she is 16! Bwahahaha!

  4. First off…. Congrats on the 7 pound weight loss. I have a sweet addiction too and my youngest is 7 months ….! Great photo and enjoy the quieter moments!!

  5. My one and only starts school this year. I am so going to miss all the “mom and me” time.

  6. yes, moms do need time to themselves. Sometimes as moms we lose our identity. Enjoy the time to yourself – you deserve it! For me it’s hard – 5 kids and homeschool but my husband is so great about helping!

  7. I’ve always worked outside the home, but work less during the summer so I’m glad I get to spend more time with the kids.

  8. these are great plans and goals to have. MY daughter starts her first year of school and is so excited!

  9. I work full time as well. It is hard to balance everything but totally worth it. All women have to make tough choices and none are easy to execute. We can rest in peace when he hit the dirt!! Good luck on your new journey!!

  10. I was almost right there with you…but now expecting #3. I am actually looking forward to staying home for once, I’ve always worked full time and will welcome the time at home with everyone.

  11. I love the look on their faces. I work full time – but work from home on Fridays and when both kids are gone I get so much done for work and housework!

  12. This will be the first time ever that I have not had kids at home all day. My youngest is starting head start so I will have a solid block of time every day for exercise and work.

  13. I am in the same boat as you. Kids go to school and I go home and go to work! It’s rewarding to see what can be done without any interruptions but the day is not near as much fun. But I do get a lot done during the day and then I have the nights free to enjoy the kids!

  14. Agreed!! Nothing wrong with blaming your six year old for your baby weight 😉
Transition “gracefully”. Take a second and watch how I transition every year:

(it’s my back to school happy dance and is guaranteed to make you laugh)

  15. I have been a SAHM for the last 14 years minus a 3 year stint where I worked full time and the husband stayed home with the kids. I am not looking forward to next year when I send off my youngest of four. I am homeschooling him this year, and if I was selfish I would continue to do so the rest of his school life 😀

  16. Great photo, I know my daughter is counting the days to school starting also to have some “her” time, 🙂

  17. Their faces! I melt. I love your positivity and know that though the extra time will be put to good use, this must be such a hard transition to make. Sending hugs!

  18. We just finished my son’s 3rd week of school. We start early! It is a lot easier getting things done, but it’s hard watching them grow up. I like to make lists. Being able to see what I have to do makes it more doable for me.

  19. Love your list!! I have no kids in school so I know it is hard! Once they are older, I will def have more! Enjoy the time!!!!
