What’s this book all about? Check out this review below from an enthusiast below:

I’m in a moral quandary.

I’m of two minds about the recent novel by Jesse S. Greever, The Perdition of Zephyr Hopkins. One the one hand, I love the book for the tight narrative, the compelling story, the tension throughout, and the relentless twists and turns. On the other hand, I almost hate the book for the way it made me feel.

The eponymous protagonist is an engima. Throughout his trials and tribulations (most of which are self-imposed), he is something of a desperate fool, making bad decision after bad decision, piling on delayed consequences that threaten to be unleashed at any moment. In that respect, Zephyr Hopkins is pitiable. But I have to stop short of feeling sorry for him, since he spends a great deal of the book going to extraordinary lengths to hide the increasing direness of his financial situation from the rest of his family–particularly, his trusting wife.

Zephyr Hopkins is a prideful, master manipulator whose carefully woven web of deception is both intriguing to read about and fury-inducing to imagine. But, Zephyr Hopkins is also someone whose plight, while exaggerated for the sake of compelling plot and pacing, feels vaguely familiar in today’s economy. Even while we watch improving numbers in unemployment and other economic indicators, we all know people who are out of work and in desperate situations. The Perdition of Zephyr Hopkins takes that uncomfortable truth, confronts us with it, and then rubs our face in it.

The Perdition of Zephyr Hopkins will stick with you long after you read the final word. If you pick it up–and I highly recommend thatΒ  you do–count on waking up in the middle of the night with terrifying after-visions of Zephyr Hopkins dancing through your head.

And then, you can decide just how you feel about Zephyr.
