2nd annual BGCA Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign #MomCentral

The Season Is About Giving….

BGCA
Have you heard of the BGCA? The Boys & Girls Club of America helps young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Their core beliefs are that all kids need:
  • A safe place to learn and grow…
  • Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals…
  • Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences…
  • Hope and opportunity.

Check out the BGCA website and see more information about their organization and what they are doing to help kids for the holidays! Also, you can play this free and easy Giving Game and earn a gift for a deserving Club Kid today!! Easy to do and it helps make a kid‘s day a little brighter this holiday season!

One more thing you can do is visit the BGCA Facebook page to VOTE for the Kids Give Back photo contest! Again, very easy to do and it helps support the BGCA!

The BGCA also has a list of tips to help teach your children about the importance of giving back! My favorites that we do are

  • Read Books About Giving
  • Volunteer Together
  • Make Philanthropy a Family Value

* Make sure you read the others on their site too! They’re pretty cool ideas!

We have tried to make helping others part of our family experience this year. As you can see in the “Charity” tab on this site, we have done many things this year to help others. We collected and donated 100 boxes of cereal to those in needs, as well as dental products, school supplies, books, and hygiene products. I feel like it’s very important for kids to learn to help others, especially those in real need of “life essentials.”

My kids have really enjoyed helping others this year, and we will continue to do so in the years to come! We actually shop at Walmart often and my kids will ask me what we should buy to help others. Service to others is also a great thing to teach kids. We have done a lot this year with buying/collecting and donating items, but we need to work more next year on “doing” for others as well.

How do you teach your kids to be giving to others?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

    1. I love to see people helping others! You have a great heart and there needs to be more people like you. Wonderful that you are teaching your children the same values

    2. This is awesome! The kids gave a gift for the giving tree at our local YMCA, and we will be doing some other things over the week to come. I believe you have to lead by example. If your kids see you helping out and giving back, they are much more likely to do it too! 🙂

    3. what a fantastic program! there is nothing better than getting kids involved early and often to show them that there is a REAL JOY in GIVING!! thanks for sharing

    4. Amazing program. It’s wonderful that you’re doing this! Amber is right – you have a huge heart.

    5. What fun to look back on the year of giving with your kids! This is a great lesson that will pay off for years!

    6. I have taught my kids early on now that giving is a great thing. They bought toys for other families for christmas. My kids said they dont’ need any toys this year at all.

    7. I always bring Rissa with when we drop off donations

    8. What an amazing program!!! I really want to get my kids more involved in helping others. I think I will make it my New Years resolution!

    9. I think this program is awesome and loved reading about some of the clubs!

    10. We’re big on giving back to our community. When I lived in NJ I participated as a mentor in the BGCA. I loved every bit of it! Kudos on teaching your kids early on the meaning of giving, charity, and unity.

    11. I love that you teach your children to help others, better yet that you do it year round.

    12. I couldn’t agree more. Teaching children compassion is the best thing you could ever do for them. Thanks for sharing!

    13. I think it’s really great seeing people help others. I’m thinking about doing something with the kids at least once a month in 2013. I want to show them it’s the right thing to do. If I make it regular for them, it may just stick.

    14. This is so great!! I am constantly trying to show my 3 girls how to give! It’s not only the big things like this~ that we do, too~ but little things. When I give to someone in need I make sure to tell them so they can see it going on in every day life. I think it’s the little things that no one ever knows about that make the biggest difference in teaching our kids to give!
      Good job, Mama!

    16. You really have done a lot of amazing charity work this year. It is quite cool. We are working this year on gathering items for our local Family Crisis center for the Holidays. Just something to get the kids involved in giving back for Christmas.

    17. I love how included your children are in giving back. Such a wonderful life skill to teach them. you are awesome.

    18. This is so great! It is so wonderful to see that your children are so involved!

    19. Wow, this is so wonderful! Awesome.

    20. Great post about giving. All children are special, and all need to know about giving to other children that might not be as fortunate.

    21. That’s really awesome. We donate year-round so my daughter totally gets the giving part of the holiday season. I’m really proud of her. 🙂

    22. What a great way to encourage and help!!

    23. It’s great seeing all the things you have done to help others! 🙂

    24. I love seeing blogger kids giving back! Such a heart warming scene! I agree that kids need to learn to give to others~

    25. My comment disappeared, but I love that u are teaching your kids these great values. There is nothing more rewarding than to have a giving and generous heart! I also try to teach my kids, we used to volunteer the first Saturday of each month to help in the community. We haven’t done it in a while, but we have done yard work for an older lady who had no one to help her, and we have done some outreach at shelters. I really want to make it a habit to contribute to our community more.
