My daughter is 11-years old, and for the past few years all she has talked about is how much she loves school and in particular math and science. Being a former middle school teacher, I know how challenging it can be to get kids (especially girls) interested in math and science as favorite subjects. I am elated to see her excel in this area. She currently aspires to be a computer engineer when she grows up, as she stated below on her Back-to-School Night project I saw above her locker.

All About Me

One of her new go-to shows on Netflix is the original series Project Mc². It really resonates with her because of the math and science components and the age of the characters. This show promotes how being “smart” is the new cool for back-to-school this year. The show features four supercool teen spies who show how girls can use their science smarts and math problem-solving skills to save the world. How cool is that? You can check out a clip below:

Netflix StreamTeam also provided us with some cool experiments for my daughter to complete. She’s worked on a few and loved seeing what happens with the experiments. Who doesn’t love wearing science goggles and seeing what happens when chemicals are involved? Another fun activity has been watching the first three episodes of this new original series on Netflix! Her favorite character is the lead, McKeyla, who she also has a doll of now for her collection. I love seeing strong female characters that are smart and show our growing girls that they can be anything they want to be! Make sure to check this show out with your tween and teen daughters too!

1. Great Shows for Their Age

My son is 8 and my daughter is 10. They can always find programs that are age appropriate and interesting for them. Right now they both love the new Dragons: Race to the EdgeIt’s fun and interesting to watch! I may have watched with them!

Dragons: Race to the Edge

2. Easy to Access from Portable Devices

My kids can watch Netflix on their iPads and iPhones. This is great for trips, sports events, etc.

3. Easy to Navigate Themselves

The kids can easily search for their favorite shows or get suggestions from other shows they have viewed. Easy for them to play, pause, and come back to when needed.

4. There is a “Kids’ Netflix” to Click on for Them

Both kids know to click on the “Kids’ Netflix” screen so they only have an appropriate selection of shows and movies to choose from.

5. Great Original Series’ Options for Kids

My kids love Dragons: Race to the Edge which has multiple episodes in the series, as well as Ever After High.

Ever After High on Netflix

6. Affordable Subscription Prices

Subscriptions start as little as $7.99 a month. You have options for streaming on one or multiple devices at the same time, as well as options for receiving Blu-Ray disks and DVDs at home.

7. Educational Programing

There are great educational shows for kids to learn from. We love Planet Earth: The Complete Collection

Planet Earth: The Complete Collection

8. Promotes Compromise and Sharing

At ages 8 and 10 the kids have a hard time compromising on what to watch. Even though we have the multiple device option, I do like them to share the iPad. They have had to learn how to compromise on what to watch and share the iPad. I love seeing them learn to do this! If they fight, then they know that their Netflix will be taken away.

9. Wii Streaming

We have the Wii connected to our TV, and it’s super easy to stream Netflix through our Wii. They kids can easily use the Wii to play games on and then switch to watch great programming through the Netflix App on the Wii for streaming.

10. Because it’s simply AWESOME (say the kids)!

Orange is the New Black Season 3 on Netflix #OITNB #StreamTeam

Disclaimer: As part of the StreamTeam from Netflix, I am participating in this post. Incentives are given for being a part of the team; however, all opinions are mine and mine alone.

Season 3 of Orange is the New Black has been released on Netflix! As I was completely obsessed with seasons 1 and 2, I obviously binged on season 3 and have finished it already. This season was a bit different than the first two seasons. In season one, we really just met the characters and were introduced to Piper Chapman and how she got put into prison. She had to acclimate to her new surroundings and even found her former partner in crime Alex Vause while she was in there. Season two continued with the storyline, and we got to learn more about the background of other inmates as well. Seeing these “clips from the past” are great and help you understand the characters more in depth. There was a lot of violence in season two, especially surrounding the character Vee Parker. There were some of those “on the edge of your seat” scenes.

If season two was focused more on prison violence, then season three is the season of OITNB comedy. There was very little violence this go around, but A LOT of humor. My favorite group of ladies this time around were: Poussey, Black Cindy, Crazy Eyes, Taystee, Big Boo and Pennsatucky. They were just so funny! This season also gets more involved with back stories on characters like Soso, Vause, Black Cindy, Healy, Pennsatucky, Big Boo, Norma, Leanne and many more! I think every episode had a back story for someone.

This was also the season of entrepreneurship. Piper learns how to start a business even while being locked up. There is some relationship drama as well, and Crazy Eyes seems to become a popular author. Things in the kitchen went downhill after saving the prison from being closed down, and they now had to eat bagged food. Red found a way to get at least a few decent meals on the table for a few lucky inmates. And Norma is silent but very influential to her fellow inmates.

Overall, I thought this was a great season. Piper and Alex were a bit annoying to me, but the other women were hilarious. Definitely a must watch season. This show does not get old. Make sure to check out Orange is the New Black streaming on Netflix today! And a BIG thank you to the #StreamTeam for sending me these awesome candles for my mantle (see below):

Summer Reading ~ Five Books on My Shelf

Summer Reading ~ Five Books on My Shelf

It’s finally summer. That means here in Rhode Island it’s finally time for the beach and the pool after a long grueling winter. There’s nothing better than a nice day in the sun and sand with a good book in your hand. I recently attended an author’s night event and found some great reads to add to my bookshelf. It was called “Reading with Robin” and was hosted at The Dunes in Narragansett, Rhode Island. I hope to get through most these this summer. Check out what’s on my shelf for summer reading…

Summer Secrets: A Novel by, Jane Green

Summary from Amazon:

When a shocking family secret is revealed, twenty-something journalist Cat Coombs finds herself falling into a dark spiral. Wild, glamorous nights out in London and raging hangovers the next day become her norm, leading to a terrible mistake one night while visiting family in America, on the island of Nantucket. It’s a mistake for which she can’t forgive herself. When she returns home, she confronts the unavoidable reality of her life and knows it’s time to grow up. But she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be able to earn the forgiveness of the people she hurt.

As the years pass, Cat grows into her forties, a struggling single mother, coping with a new-found sobriety and determined to finally make amends. Traveling back to her past, to the family she left behind on Nantucket all those years ago, she may be able to earn their forgiveness, but in doing so she may risk losing the very people she loves the most.

Told with Jane Green’s keen eye for detailing the emotional landscape of the heart, Summer Secrets is at once a compelling drama and a beautifully rendered portrait of relationships, betrayals, and forgiveness; about accepting the things we cannot change, finding the courage to change the things we can, and being strong enough to weather the storms.

The Rumor: A Novel by, Elin Hilderbrand

Summary from Amazon:

Madeline King and Grace Pancik are best friends and the envy of Nantucket for their perfect marriages, their beautiful kids, their Sunday night double dates with their devoted husbands. But this summer, something’s changed, and if there’s anything Nantucket likes better than cocktails on the beach at sunset, it’s a good rumor.

And rumor has it…

…that Madeline, a novelist, is battling writer’s block, with a deadline looming, bills piling up, and blank pages driving her to desperation–and a desperately bad decision;

…that Grace, hard at work to transform her backyard into a garden paradise, has been collaborating a bit more closely that necessary with her ruggedly handsome landscape architect;

…that Grace’s husband, successful island real estate developer “Fast Eddie” Pancik, has embarked on quite an unusual side project;

…that the storybook romance between Madeline’s son, Brick, and Grace’s daughter Allegra is on the rocks, heading for disaster.

As the gossip escalates, and they face the possible loss of the happy lives they’ve worked so hard to create, Grace and Madeline try mightily to set the record straight–but the truth might be even worse than rumor has it.

The Baker’s Daughter: A Novel by, Sarah McCoy (my book club read for this month)

Summary on Amazon:

In 1945, Elsie Schmidt is a naive teenager, as eager for her first sip of champagne as she is for her first kiss. She and her family have been protected from the worst of the terror and desperation overtaking her country by a high-ranking Nazi who wishes to marry her. So when an escaped Jewish boy arrives on Elsie’s doorstep on Christmas Eve, Elsie understands that opening the door would put all she loves in danger.

Sixty years later, in El Paso, Texas, Reba Adams is trying to file a feel-good Christmas piece for the local magazine, and she sits down with the owner of Elsie’s German Bakery for what she expects will be an easy interview. But Reba finds herself returning to the bakery again and again, anxious to find the heart of the story—a story that resonates with her own turbulent past. For Elsie, Reba’s questions are a stinging reminder of that last bleak year of World War II. As the two women’s lives become intertwined, both are forced to confront the uncomfortable truths of the past and seek out the courage to forgive.

East Greenwich, Rhode Island ~ Photo Tour

East Greenwich, Rhode Island ~ Photo Tour

I live in a small town in Rhode Island just 15 minutes south of Providence, called East Greenwich. It’s a town with one high school, one middle school, two upper elementary schools, and two lower elementary schools. The people in the town are very involved in their schools, families, sports, and neighbors. We belong to a wonderful community pool in the summers called The Greenwich Club, where we meet up with many of our friends. My favorite part of my town is the quaint Main Street, that consists of trendy boutiques and numerous restaurants. It’s the perfect New England town that includes a community library, town hall, and fields for kids to play. East Greenwich is truly the perfect family-friendly town to raise a family and be close to many other cities filled with culture. My daughter and I walked the downtown the other night and took a little photo tour of some of the Main Street shops.

ABC Family Crazy on Netflix #StreamTeam

ABC Family Crazy on Netflix #StreamTeam

Disclaimer: As part of the StreamTeam from Netflix, I am participating in this post. Incentives are given for being a part of the team; however, all opinions are mine and mine alone.

Everyone keeps asking me what to watch on Netflix this month. I recently finished all the seasons of Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, and Switched at Birth. All three of these series are on ABC Family. I had seen a commercial for Pretty Little Liars (PLL) on TV, so I decided to watch an episode. After watching that one episode, I wanted to know more. Who was this “A” and what did this all mean? I knew I had to watch it from the beginning. Once I finished PLL, I saw ads for the other two shows and they looked quite intriguing as well. Two girls switched at birth in the hospital? And one went deaf at an early age. I had to watch it. Lastly, a show about two kids, brother and sister, trying to find a stable foster home. Maybe one that would eventually adopt them. Could it be this family that is not a traditional family? This family that has two moms? That could be the perfect fit!

All three of these shows are great. It’s hard to tell which I really liked best, because they are all so different. I guess if push comes to shove, then I would probably pick Switched at Birth as my favorite out of the three, but they seriously are all awesome shows! They are all still on TV, so you once you watch them you will have to wait until more seasons are released in real time. I follow all the PLL girls on Instagram, as well as some of the actors from Switched at Birth and The Fosters. It’s cool to see what they are doing in their lives. Make sure to check out these three ABC Family shows on Netflix today!!!

What I need to know now….

Are they finally going to get to the bottom of “A” on Pretty Little Liars? Who will everyone end up with? Will things finally be normal for these girls?

What is next for Emmett and Bay on Switched at Birth? Will things get worked out? What’s next for Daphne? Or Toby?

What’s going to happen with Callie and Jude? Will they find a permanent home on The Fosters? What about their love lives? How will everything come together? And will Stef and Lena’s relationship survive?

My kids have always loved theHEXBUG AquaBot line, as they got their first AquaBot Goldfish about two years ago. Who doesn’t love a cool toy that you can play with in water? My kids love to play with the HEXBUG AquaBot toys in the bathtub and in the AquaBot Harbour they saved their money together to buy. I know you all have your favorite Netflix series to watch (as I am patiently waiting for June 12th to roll around to watch season three of Orange is the New Black), but if you are looking for something good to watch right now …….. here are some shows to stream and enjoy!

“Bloodline” is a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community. But when the black sheep son comes home for the 45th anniversary of his parents’ hotel, he threatens to expose the Rayburns’ dark secrets and shameful past, pushing his siblings to the limits of family loyalty. ~

I am personally halfway through this intriguing show. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with flashbacks and flash-forwards to scenes. So far I feel like it’s going to have a pretty messed up ending. You’ll have to watch to see what I mean. The characters are great though, and I love the family dynamic. This is the first season of the show, so you haven’t missed anything yet! Start watching Bloodline on Netflix now!

House of Cards

This Emmy-winning original thriller series stars Golden Globe winner Kevin Spacey as ruthless, cunning Congressman Francis Underwood, who will stop at nothing to conquer the halls of power in Washington D.C. His secret weapon: his gorgeous, ambitious, and equally conniving wife Claire (Golden Globe winner Robin Wright). ~

Now starting on season three, this talked about series gets even crazier. I absolutely loved season one and two, and now hubby and I have just started season three. It’s already started out with a bang. This political drama has some of the best acting on television today! Netflix knocked it out of the park with this series. And it’s not too late to start! You will get sucked in immediately! Start watching House of Cards on Netflix now!

Marvel’s Daredevil

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night. ~

Another Netflix Original is Marvel’s Daredevil. We have not watched it yet, but we keep hearing great things about this show. It is definitely on our “must watch” list for this next month. We will finish House of Cards and Bloodline first, and then Daredevil will be next! Can’t wait! Start watching Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix now! What are you watching on Netflix right now?
