Getting the Best Care for Your Kids When They Get Injured!

When Kids Get Hurt Parents Want the Best Care
~ Finding Specialized Orthopedics Is Important ~
Most of you know that my daughter is a competitive gymnast. She is 8-years old and a level four gymnast in Rhode Island at Rise Gym. She works hard and has been at the gym for two and a half years. Unfortunately, with all sports kids are in danger of injuries. Kendal was ready last competition season, worked very hard for the meets which are only four to five months out of the year, and then got injured right before the second meet of the season. She popped some bones in her arm while doing her first back handspring without a spot. Such a great accomplishment for her but with devastating results. It was awful. I was there at practice that day when it happened. She was in pain and needed medical attention right away.

There are many hospitals here in Rhode Island. Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, RI is where everyone goes when an illness or injury is serious. There are pediatric orthopedic specialists there and you know you are going to get great care. It’s a little farther to drive to but completely worth the peace of mind to know you are getting the best care for your child. We took her straight there, and she got excellent care. She was in a cast for two months and missed most of her competition season last year, but she healed and is back at it. I am so proud of her for sticking with it (although I do get nervous of injuries she may endure). I am also very thankful for the doctors that helped her. The orthopedic doctor Kendal saw at Hasbro was amazing and got her fixed up! I was most worried about her growth plates in her arm, but he assured us all was healed.  Make sure if injuries happen to your kids it’s worth it to see a specialized orthopedic, so please do not wait. Go straight there!

Make sure you seek the best medical care for your kids. The Hospital for Special Surgery is a world leader in orthopedics, rheumatology and rehabilitation. Located in New York City, HSS recently opened the CA Technologies Rehabilitation Center at the Children’s Pavilion providing comprehensive, individualized rehabilitation for both inpatients and outpatients from birth to 21 years. Its multidisciplinary staff includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.

Make sure to visit the Hospital for Special Surgery on their site and their Facebook page for more information, as well as the new CA Technologies Rehabilitation Center within the Lerner Children’s Pavilion.  You can see all the wonderful work they do!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Hospital for Special Surgery. A small donation to a charity of my choice was made in my name as a thank you for participating. You should consult with your physician or other health care provider before beginning any rehabilitation/therapy, sports training, or exercise program.

  1. So glad the injury didn’t have a long term impact and that you had some great doctors available to help with the healing process!

  2. In Rhode Island, we are lucky to be so close to such great hospitals. When it comes to our kids, I’d say any place would be worth the drive too. 🙂 Glad Kendal recovered and received some great treatment from Hasbro!

  3. We are so lucky to have great hospitals!!! I am so glad K recovered with their help!

  4. I feel blessed to have Hasbro so close to us – When Jack was little he had breathing issues as a result of constant reflux, they were always so kind and careful with him. Its wonderful to have somewhere that specializes in our little ones and knows what they need to get and feel better!!

  5. Oh, I remember when my then 4 year old broke his arm. I didn’t have the first clue where to go. You are lucky to have such great care!

  11. Poor baby! I know that was painful but glad she is back competing and did not let it scare her away from a sport she loves.

  12. I worked for an orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery when I lived in NYC! It really is a fabulous place. So glad Kendal is back at gymnastics!

  13. You are right, it is important to get help right away. My son broke his knee cap in football practice and because we did not realize it right away he has some lingering pain from it. What a great accomplishment by your daughter! Makes me smile!

  14. We are so blessed to have children’s hospital right down the road. It really was wonderful when we had to take JDaniel there for stitches!

  16. I remember when my oldest had a cast when she was 2. The ortho was great. Hers was purple too.

  17. I am glad that your daughter is doing better and got back into sports after she got hurt. Many times it really scares people too much to even want to try again.

  20. Awww poor baby. I love great doctors… it’s so hard to find a good one!!

  21. I was lucky enough to work with the paramedics in my area long enough to learn which hospitals to head to for what. They all are great, but some are better at certain things than others. I am glad that you found a place to take such good care of your daughter, I love that casts are now somewhat water proof!

  22. My eight year old daughter is also in gymnastics and a level 4. I am always so nervous watching her, but also so proud of her commitment and dedication. She is so determined. I am so happy your daughter had such wonderful care and back at on the floor 🙂

  23. It is really a blessing to have a hospital and doctors that you trust for your children.
