Reaching Your Goals Brings On the Tears ~ Get Kleenex

Kleenex Moments: Tears of Pride
Our family is a sports family. We spend hours a week at Rise Gym with my daughter for her gymnastics training. She is a level four gymnast who competes nationally. She constantly improves and learns new moves and skills all the time. At meets we definitely keep our Kleenex close at hand. She works so hard, and when we see her succeed with her goals it brings on tears of pride.
I remember one instance last spring at the state meet. She had been working super hard to get her back handspring for her floor routine, but she just couldn’t seem to do it without a spot from her coach. Her coach knew she could do it, we knew she could do it, but we just needed to wait until she knew that it could be done! Right before the competition she told her coach that she thought she could do it without a spot. And she did it. We were so proud of her for her accomplishment! She did not get a medal or get to stand on the podium, but there is so much more than recognition to be proud of with sports. Being able to have the courage to do something at a competition that you’ve never done before was even more of an accomplishment than any medal she could have received. She was proud of herself as well and happy for her accomplishment.

We also take pride in our son’s accomplishments. He has a harder time, as he gets frustrated in sports quite easily. We have to tell him to keep trying and to work hard. He just wants success to come without the hard work. We also try and stress to him that sports can be for fun and exercise too. Being involved in sports helps kids to be more active and well-rounded. You can learn teamwork and sportsmanship from participating in sports. It’s not all about winning. Just be YOUR very best. That’s all you can do.
My son likes t-ball over other sports. He has been trying harder now to improve and to make contact with the bat and the ball. I remember the day he actually hit the ball off the tee and it went far! His ear-to-ear smile after hitting that ball brought tears to our eyes. Thank goodness for the handy packet of Kleenex in my pocket. Tears of pride are the best, and both kids make my husband and I proud of their determination and accomplishments.
