Family Movie Time with Del Monte Snacks
~ Healthy Del Monte Parfaits for a Treat ~
My daughter just turned 8 years old, and she has been dying the read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. The series is about a boy, Greg Heffley, who is going into middle school and documents his trials and tribulations in a journal (but his mom bought him a “diary” instead, so that’s what it says on the front). The series came from a web comic that was brought to life in these “cartoon novels.” It’s a fun series and very entertaining for older kids and adults alike. My daughter was so excited when I let her buy the book at Walmart and the first movie for us to watch as well.
We read parts of the book together (she loved the book and wants the next ones in the series), and we had a family movie night as well! It was fun watching the movie together, and it entertained my 5-year old son too. We made some super yummy and healthy snacks for our fun family time. Del Monte fruit cups are awesome for a quick delicious snack, whether right out of the cup or mixed with other ingredients. We decided to make some yogurt parfaits with our Del Monte fruit cups. We layered yogurt, the fruit, and some healthy granola mix to create our treats. I let the kids choose which Del Monte fruit cup they wanted to use in their parfaits. I had peaches with cinnamon and brown sugar (a new flavor), or cherry mix fruit for them to choose from.
The healthy granola will add a nice crunch to our parfaits!
There were a few fruit cups to choose from, but we LOVE Del Monte and for $2.00 ~ That’s such a deal!
We had not tried this NEW flavor before!
We got home and gathered our ingredients!
We layered the yogurt, Del Monte fruit cup (drained), and the granola mix.
It was SUPER yummy! Check out the cinnamon and brown sugar on the peaches (you can see it)! It made for a delicious and SWEET treat!

The movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, was super cute, and we enjoyed our healthy snacks while we watched it! After the movie we thought it would be fun to try and draw pictures of ourselves in DOAWK, which is the style used in the cartoon-style novels of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It was cool in the movie to see them drawing the cartoons throughout the movie, and it’s neat to see how the characters resemble the people. My daughter wanted us to create a family portrait in DOAWK! I did the best I could with some help from her to draw the family.

Awesome family time together! My 9 year old son and I LOVE these books and movies as well. And my son loves cooking, and makes these parfaits for us a lot! We will have to try the DelMonte Cinnamon Peaches though – havent had them yet and they sound so yummy – and we Always have Chobani on hand because there is no substitute for that! Love your post!

‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ is one of my favorite series! Even though I’m almost 17, I truly enjoy reading the books, and I even persuaded my brother who never reads to read the books, and he liked them as well.
Yum!!! D really wants to read those and see the movie as well. The drawn pic is super cute! 🙂

I didn’t realize the movie was out SO soon! My boys will be begging to see it! You are too creative with your snacks…I just pop open the fruit cup (it never occurred to me to add yogurt and granola…I’m going to give it a try!)

Del Monte fruit cups are the only way I can get my youngest to eat fruit. But he LOVES yogurt … so your parfait idea is going on my list!!!! Why didn’t I ever think of that before? Thank you!

My 11 year old son LOVES the books! I have bought him the newest book every year for Christmas and now we can’t wait for the #7 to come out. It is supposed to be released in November and he is already asking for it. Those Del Monte Peaches w/ Cinnamon & Brown Sugar sound just up my alley! My family also loves parfaits so we will be trying those fruit cups. I will probably keep the juice to add into my son’s fruit punch mix. I hope to take my son to see the newest installment of Diary of a Wimpy Kid too.

i discovered the “diary of a wimpy kid” books when i visited a friend with a 9 yr old son who had one sitting out. I stayed until i finished reading the book! I’ll definitely go see the movie, even if i don’t have a kid with me 🙂

The yogurt snack is something I’ve been making for years! Glad to see others do it also. I love Wimpy Kid! I have bought all of the books for my grandson. I think somehow the kids can relate, it’s good.

first off….great drawing! I really liked the first movie, the 2nd one not so much, but if there was a 3rd, and i thought there is, i would see it and i am 31 with no kids. Imlove that it empoweres the underdog and gets kids reading. the snack you made looks great as well

We saw that movie a while back, Its super cute! Thise treats look so easy to make and look like they taste amazing! I will have to try it.. I was thinking on a hot summer night for a dessert twist you could get some ice cream or frozen yogurt(any flavor) and layer it the same (without the regular yogurt) for a cold fruit crisp! 🙂
My kids are in college and one in high school and they all read that book and seen the movie and they are looking forward to seeing the new one now,

I personally LOVE DelMonte fruit cups and fruit gels. Anything with peach is a hit for me. Not so sure though about peach with cinnamon and brown sugar. Cinnamon is such an overpowering flavor that I wouldn’t want it to ruin the sweet peach flavor.

My little girl is nine years old and she mentioned that she would like to go to the movies and see Diary of A Wimpy Kid with a little boy in her class. The little boy’s father said he hadn’t heard anything about it, but he was willing to let them go see it together. Now we just need to figure out who wants to go with them.
