Mama Luvs Books: Planning for Summer Vacation

Do You Have Plans This Summer?
Each year we like to try and take a trip if possible. Last year we went to Ireland for a our 10-year Anniversary (thanks Mom & Dad for watching the kids), and the year before that it was a family trip to the Bahamas. I searched around the Internet and found a fabulous deal on CheapCaribbean.com. We stayed at an all-inclusive Wyndham resort in Freeport. We basically got the per person rate for as much as it usually costs for just a flight (flight, stay, food, and drinks ALL included). It was amazing!

This year we are planning a smaller scale trip, but wanted to take the kids somewhere. We are headed home to the DC area for my 20-year high school reunion in August (Yikes!), but that’s not really a vacation. The kids have been dying to go to Story Land in New Hampshire, so we thought that would be a close and easy trip and we would give that a try!

I just booked us two nights at the Hampton Inn in North Conway, NH. It looks super awesome with waterslides for the kids and a nice hot breakfast every morning. It is only a few miles from Story Land Family Park, so they kids will be super psyched!

We also decided to head over to Portland, Maine after that. We’ve never been to Maine and hear it’s beautiful. I am going to research some things for us to do there. We are going to spend three nights at the Embassy Suites and look around the town. I’m sure there will be some awesome things to do for the family. We are really excited because the kids are getting old enough to enjoy and appreciate family vacations (ages 5 and 7).

I will blog along the way and tell you all about my trip! I will let you know what we end up doing, some pros and cons of the trip, and any super cool things and advice to share. What are you doing to summer vacation? Any plans yet?

  1. We are thinking of stopping in DC and visiting the zoo on the way to visit family in Maryland. We are also hoping to get a way for a few nights to either Portland or somewhere in NH! I love family trips and we don’t do them nearly enough!

We did Portland last year it was fun! If you are a sports loving family make sure you go to see a Sea Dogs game if they are in town. I highly recommend Old Towne Trolley to get around town and see the sights. 🙂

  4. So fun!! I haven’t been to Storyland since I was a kid. I’m not sure when we will take our son, but I can’t wait!! You are going to have a blast!! 🙂 We are only going to Vermont for a weekend. We are going to see David Gray, and we are taking our son with us so I’ve been looking for kid friendly things to do during the day on Saturday and Sunday! Really looking forward to it!! 😀

  5. We go to NH and storyland every year BUT not this year as built patio instead. Can’t wait to hear all about your trip. 🙂

The Children’s Museum in Portland is great! And if you have the family plus membership to Providence Children’s Museum, it’s on the reciprocal list so admission is free. Freeport, ME is a short side trip from Portland and home to the LL Bean flagship store and tons of great outlet shopping…..have fun!

  8. Wow that looks great I was just looking into all inclusive resorts for xmas break great timing.
