Top 5 Hexbug Toys for the Holidays

We were lucky enough to review some pretty cool Hexbug toys this year. Here are our picks for the Top 5 Hexbug Toys to purchase for your kids this holiday season!

Hexbug Vex Robotics

Product Description from Site: “The purpose behind VEX® Robotics is to introduce science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to kids at a young age! Robotics kits encourage children and teenagers to stretch their imaginations while creating a fully-functional and effective robot! Originally designed for the classroom, VEX® Robotics provides educators with the tools they need to teach the principles of STEM while maintaining an engaging and hands-on experience for their students. The VEX® model of incorporating competition into lessons and activities continues to challenge students on a level far beyond textbooks or lectures! VEX® Robotics competitions come in all shapes and sizes. They allow students to compete anywhere from regional to national, and all the way up to the world championship level! Each competition match encourages students to work together as a team to develop new skills, solve problems, and learn along the way!”

Why we like it: It encourages kids to use their minds and build. It takes building toys to a whole new level as well. Once you build it you can play with it electronically! The “Brain” helps bring it to life with the remote you can use to control it. Definitely a top pick for kids that love to construct things and see them in action as well. Highly recommend this toy!

Hexbug Transformers Warriors

Product Description from Site: “The HEXBUG Warriors TRANSFORMERS Battle Stadium is the ultimate battleground for HEXBUG Warriors and comes with two HEXBUG Warriors TRANSFORMERS, six characters of armor, and an interactive air-locked battle platform. You can operate their HEXBUG Warriors TRANSFORMERS in Training Mode, with unlimited health, for scrimmages and testing purposes. Once the Warriors are ready for battle, they can be powered into Match Mode and are set to enter into competition, where they crash, jab and jostle with their opponents until they win or lose by running out of health, at which point they deactivate. In Match Mode, each robot’s Shock Sensor activates its Damage Indicator Light which changes colors from green to red and blinks more rapidly as its health decreases.”

Why we like it: They are fun to play with because they “battle it out” and change colors when doing so. You can see them losing their power to fight. My son loved playing with them over and over to see who would win. Kids can chart the wins and compare the results. They can also hypothesize why one Warrior would beat another (body style, etc). And best of all…they are Transformers!

Hexbug Battle Spider

Product Description from Site: “The six-legged spider features 360 degree steering and an LED forward eye, allowing you to maneuver it around objects and control precisely where it scurries as it battles against its opponent. Each Battle Spider features a two-channel infrared remote control. The two-channel remote control enables the user to operate multiple bugs independently or at the same time.”

Why we like it: My kids each have one and they love to battle it out with their own Battle Spiders. They get pretty competitive. The great thing about this toy is that each independent battle has a different outcome (who wins, why, how long it takes). It never gets boring for the kids. Great toy for girls and boys alike.

Hexbug Nano V2 Black Hole

Product Description from Site: This new breed of gravity defying Nano V2 bugs can now climb up vertically, horizontally, around corners, through loops and tubes, to the tip top of any Nano V2 habitat set. The Black Hole enables Nano V2 super-fans to customize the design and layout of the three-story set, unleashing kids’ creativity. HEXBUG Nano V2 is compliant with CPSIA standards. Ages 3+”

Why we like it: We actually MORE than like this toy, we LOVE it! The kids have built the traditional Black Hole set-up, but also used their minds to switch things up. It’s so fun for them to see the Nano V2 bugs crawl up and all around. Every time my kids play with this I hear laughter and joy. It’s ON SALE right not on the Hexbug site from $49.99 to $34.99. GREAT DEAL! Get it NOW!

Hexbug Strandbeast

Product Description from Site: The Strandbeast features a mesmerizing eight-legged walking mechanism that gives this complex robot its graceful, smooth-walking stride. Includes a two-channel infrared remote control that allows the user to independently operate each side of the Strandbeast’s legs.”

Why we like it: This is the perfect stocking stuffer at a great price! This remote bug can turn 360 degrees, and the kids love to play with it for hours at a time. They have the bugs constantly zooming around the kitchen floor. A great toy for both girls and boys.
