First Day of School

Today was the first day back to school for the kids. The way our school system works, is that there is an upper elementary and lower elementary. This means that the kids at grades 1st and 4th are at different schools. It was sad to see them getting on different buses and heading off to different schools. Big sister was not there to sit with little brother on the bus anymore. It was even more of a change that both kids were in school for the full day.

My favorite part of the day though, was my son getting off the bus and running to me! He gave me a huge hug and said, “Mom, I missed you too bad!” It melted my heart. Overall, they had a fairly successful first day of school. My daughter does not really like change, so I think she will take a little while to warm up to her new school. Have your kids started back to school yet? How did you feel?

  1. I remember these days oh so well… all the preparation and excitement and then parents anxious to see how things went. Your kids are so beautiful and I’m sure all things will be perfect! From a grandparent perspective, it’s just about the most wonderful thing to hear all about SCHOOL! Thanks for sharing…

  2. We start on Tuesday and our town has a similar set-up: one school for K and 1st; a second school for 2nd-4th; and then middle school begins in 5th grade! Glad the first day went well 🙂

  3. Awwwww so sweet! Your daughter looks like you. I am pretty sure I will be crying on first day of school this year. We decided to send them to private school. 1st day of school just happens to be my birthday! 🙁

  4. We start next week and I’m just not ready yet.

  5. Glad they had a good first day! My girls started yesterday too and they are so happy to be back to school. And thankfully they are in class with all the friends they were hoping to be with this year. That makes it much better!

  6. They are growing up so fast! This is Jackson’s first year of preschool so I’m both sad and excited 🙂

  7. School didn’t start here for the kids yet. They grow up so fast. Glad they had a good first day.

  8. We have actually been back for 3 weeks already but this is the first year to have the kids in 2 different schools too. It’s kind of tough to know that they are no longer ever going to be all together in the same building. My oldest is riding a bus for the first time too. Glad they enjoyed their first day back!

  9. We just did back to school night and my son does not do well. He has a bit of social anxiety and doesn’t like change. It took quite a while to even get him to go into his room. 🙁

  10. I still get excited for the first day of school! i love having that scheduled kind of day. 🙂

  11. Awe that makes it tough, hope they have a great school year, so exciting!
