End of the School Year is Near! I’m Actually Sad!

So the end of the school year is near, and I know most moms and dads are ready for summer with the kids and glad another school year is over! I am sad though, because this is an end of an era (as they would say on Friends). I officially have no babies left in the house! My son will be graduating kindergarten and next year he will be full time! All day!!! I know I am working now full time, so this will be easier on my schedule, but it also hits me that my kids are getting older. The baby stage is done in my household and that makes me very sad. I just went to my son’s “Alien Parade” the other day. It’s a program the kindergartners do, and I remember when my daughter was in it just a few years ago!

It’s a cute little program where they sing songs about outer space, tell us facts about the planets, and create and name an alien to share with everyone! He was so proud to get on stage and share his alien! It was so cute! He did such a great job too with all the details he added to his alien! The kids can choose from random materials but the base is always the empty water container.

Now we have the kindergarten Ocean Show and graduation, 3rd grade graduation for my daughter, her recorder program, and the school year ends June 24th! Late, I know. We don’t get any built-in snow days here like I did in all the other states I taught in. We also go back early too! End of August! What used to be a three month summer growing up is only a two month summer now! Stinks! Happy end of the school year to you all. Are you excited about it? Plans for the summer? We’ll be at the pool and the beach!

  1. You blink, and they’ve grown years, that’s how I feel, This is my son’s last year in elementary school, he starts middle school next year and it’s bittersweet. I’m happy he’s growing up a healthy, happy kid but I miss my baby too.

  2. It is bittersweet watching them grow up. You want them to do well and succeed but yet you want them little and home forever. What is it about the end of Kindergarten that makes it seem like they are no longer babies. I love the alien theme!

  3. I am so with you. It is so sad as they get older. If I had a choice, I would freeze Hayley’s age- it is the best ever! They will do wonderful in school next year! I will be really sad when they go full time too!

  4. Mine aren’t even there yet, and I’m already starting to get upset about it because I know it’s coming soon. I love that Alien Parade!

  5. Precious pictures!! My kids are growing up so fast. My daughter said, “It’s only 8 years until I head to college!” I almost started crying—–don’t even want to think about that!!!

  6. Time seriously passes by so quickly. You have to embrace all those moments you have with your kids when you have them.

  7. We have two days left here and I am feeling the end of the year fatigue as a teacher because our unit is moving to a new campus so we have had to pack up everything!

  8. I totally get it. I have one more not in school, but I am in no hurry to send my last baby. Lucky for me he misses the birthdate window for starting school by 2 weeks so I get him for one more year 😉

  9. Awww! I’m excited for what the next year brings but am definitely sentimental about our babies growing up. Love all of these photos. It definitely looks like his year in Kindergarten was full of great memories.

  10. I am so glad the school year is over but sad that they are moving on to another grade. I will have all 4 kids in school next year for the very first time, not sure how I am going to like that!!

  11. Diane @ Me, Him And The Cats says:

What a cool little parade! These kids are so creative, decorating their aliens!

  12. I love his Alien!! That is so cool! It is hard to let the kids grow up. My daughter, my BABY is turning 4 this year. I’m so not ready for this. My oldest is now considered a TWEEN! What the heck! When did that happen! He’s still my LITTLE boy! I am in all kinds of denial about this.

But I am glad for no more homework that I have to coerce my kids into doing. We are planning on summer camping, a trip to Yellowstone, and doing summer reading programs from the local library. We got out of school May 23rd, and they go back the end of August.

  13. I agree with you I always felt sad that they were growing up so fast! Mine are both older now and I continue to long for the days when they were little…I also wish I had more than two and then maybe I would still have some little ones…lol!

  14. I feel the EXACT same way! My youngest (I only have 2) just completed Kinder and we have no more “littles” left. I was the mom that was actually upset at the end of the year and not at the beginning! I feel your pain! Onto a new journey, huh?

  15. My son is graduating from Kindergarten too. Luckily I still have a 3year old “baby” to hold onto for now. 🙂

  16. LOVE the alien parade!!! What a fun tradition! It’s definitely bittersweet to see the kids growing up! i wouldn’t keep them small for sure though. Have a great summer!

  17. It s hard seeing them grow up so quick. Love the photos he looks so happy and proud of himself 🙂

  18. So Sweet! I feel the same way! I am looking forward to summer fun, but they just grow so fast!

  19. Moving post… and feeling your bittersweet moments. Thank you for sharing some of your beautiful memories…

  20. Reminds me of the Wiggleworms at the preschool my girls went to! Now they are both in high school, and one is a senior! Where did the time go? #holdthemtight

  21. It’s crazy. My son turns 4 in August & will be ready for school soon. I can’t believe that time has gone by so quickly! It sure does fly by…. 🙁

  22. My son will start full day kindergarten this fall. I am so not ready for it.

  23. They are growing much too fast!! Love his alien! Sam keeps asking when he can have a play date with Drew. Maybe we can do that in July?
