This week’s review is going to be a little different. I will be reviewing ALL kinds of kids’ books and series, but this one is a special request from my 7-year old daughter. She had JUST started reading chapter books over the summer, and she will be going into 2nd grade this fall. She was really resistant to reading chapter books for some reason, and she only wanted to stick to her picture books. I know all kids progress at different rates, but I really just wanted to find some way that I could get her interested in chapter books (and so they weren’t so scary for her!).
I had heard from a friend about the “Rainbow Fairy” series. I researched it, and the books looked like a great reading level for an emerging reader. I showed her one in the library and she said, “I guess we can check it out and see.” Well, she LOVES them now!!! In fact she loves them so much that she saves all her allowance to buy these books! She wants to collect them all (and boy there are a lot!). I just love that she is interested in reading now and LOVES to read!!! Her favorite book so far that she wanted me to share with everyone is called: Chloe: The Topaz Fairy (Rainbow Magic: The Jewel Fairies, No. 4) by, Daisy Meadows (80 pages, recommended for ages 4 and up).

We are in the process of collecting the Jewel Fairy Books, Pet Keeper Fairy Books, and Rainbow Fairy Books! My daughter rated this particular book a 9 out of 10 (since a better one might come along)! What I like about them is:
1. They are interesting for my daughter
2. Easy enough for a first time chapter book reader to comprehend
3. There are some black-and-white illustrations throughout the books (so a good transition from picture books)
4. The story lines in each series build on each other and connect
5. The books in each series are numbered
6. They are only $4.99 each!
Probably start with #1 of a series your child is interested in and work your way up! You can purchase Chloe: The Topaz Fairy on the right sidebar of this page through Amazon! Easy as that!!!
Now I will be on the hunt for similar books for a boy’s interest (as I have a son that will be learning to read independently in the next couple of years)! Ideas anyone?
Thanks for the follows! I was already a follower/fan of yours 🙂 Love your blog!
