Kids’ Book Review Day: Fancy Nancy

The "Fancy Nancy" books by Jane O'Conner (author) and Robin Preiss Glasser (illustrator) are probably are wonderful books for vocabulary building.  We have many of them, both the hardback books and the Step-Into Reading paperback series.  My daughter was interested in them by age 3, and was even using words in her preschool class like stupendous, accessories, and lavender.  Here is what we like best about them:1.  Easy to read (except for the … [Read more...]

What is Mommy Reading? – “The Reader”

"The Reader," by Bernhard Schlink, was an Oprah Book Club selection in February 1999.  It is a very intriguing and quick read.  It shows an interesting development between two characters during postwar Germany.  It is a story of love and secrets, and shows how situations can bring strangers together in interesting ways.     Here is a description of the book (book is 224 pages): "When he falls ill on his way home from school, fifteen-year-old … [Read more...]

Friday Discussion Day – Vote for Your Favorite Book!

I like reading all kinds of books!  I truly love biographies and autobiographies, but I also adore the Nicholas Sparks type love stories as well.  If I have to really think about what kind of books I like to read it's very hard.  I guess I just must LOVE TO READ!!! Growing up I was into the Nancy Drew Mysteries, but then I really migrated towards true crime (like Lifetime Movies).  Now I pretty much will pick up anything that interests me.  From … [Read more...]

What is Mommy Reading? – “The Shack”

Obviously I was inspired to review this book from yesterday's Book Hunt picture!  The Shack, by Wm. Paul Young, was an amazing read and a very unexpected read.  I had to read this for a book club selection, and I had no idea what this book was going to be about.  I thought it was going to be some sort of murder mystery, but instead it was a journey into religion.  I thought it explained religious views in ways I have never thought about them … [Read more...]
