National Book Award Nominations 2011 Mix-Up!!!

I just read an article about a young adult readers book selection that was "accidentally" nominated for the National Book Award.  It was read aloud and included in a list of top five books for Young People's Literature, but then the committee said they were sorry and they had the wrong book.  The book that was named was titled "Shine" by Lauren Myracle, but it was supposed to be "Chime" by Franny Billingsley.  I feel so bad for the author that … [Read more...]

Kids’ Book Review Day: “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type”

"Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type," by Doreen Cronin is a funny story about farm animals and the farmer that keeps him.  They type their requests on a typewriter and send him letters, but he refuses to meet their needs.  It goes back and forth, they protest, they come to an understanding.  It's funny and light-hearted.  My kids laugh every time we read it.  I won't tell you the end, but it's funny!!!       WHY WE LOVE THIS BOOK:1.  Easy to read … [Read more...]

What is Mommy Reading? – “Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen”

This book was very slow for me to get into, but once I got about halfway it moved very quickly.  It was definitely an EASY read.  No difficult language or concepts.  I did have a little bit of a hard time really caring about some of the characters (and I'm not sure why).  There were MANY twists and turns (shockers) at the end of the book, but otherwise I can say I was a little bit bored before that.  If you want an easy read that does not require … [Read more...]
