Back-to-School-Back-to-Basics

During the summer it’s a free-for-all around here, and I am not good at making sure the kids are keeping up on their healthy routines. I work during the summers now, so holding down a full time job is hard with the kids home full time during the summer months. I let them sleep in, lay around, go to the pool, play at the beach, etc. I don’t worry as much about their routines, so back to school time is the perfect time to revisit our healthy routines for our bodies and minds.

Tips for a Healthy Mind

1. TV off and back to the books. Kids need to read for at least 30 minutes a night.

2. Eat healthier; get in those fruits and veggies.

3. Pack a well-balanced lunch for school and start the day off right with a healthy breakfast.

4. Challenge yourself and study hard.

5. Keep sharp with herbal teas; you can use Splenda for healthier sweetening too!

Tips for a Healthy Body

1. Take care of your skin and teeth; utilize products like LUBRIDERM® Daily Moisture Lotion for 24-hour fragrance free moisturizing fortified with vitamin B5, and LISTERINE® HealthyWhite mouthwash to safely whiten and restore enamel for a whiter smile that’s healthier too.

2. Nourish, brush, and style hair for a more put together look. Brushing is at a minimum during the summer months for my kids. My daughter’s long locks get tangled and messy, so we love using JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo & Conditioner which is a 2-in-1 shampoo with NO MORE TANGLES® conditioners to help unlock stubborn knots and tangles. It keeps hair easy to manage without feeling weighed down. Both my daughter and son love it! You can see how excited he was to get more!

3. Exercise at least three times a week; even a walk around the block once a day is preferable. The kids will be back in their sports routines (gymnastics and lacrosse).

4. Keep skin healthy and young looking with AVEENO® POSITIVELY RADIANT® Skin Brightening Daily Scrub and NEUTROGENA® Oil Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit. Not only do teens/tweens break out, but so do mom and dad! These are great for cleansing your skin and fighting acne. And speaking of young, mom needs some RoC® Deep Wrinkle Night Cream in my nighttime routine to help keep those wrinkles away and look younger and healthier. Yes ladies, this is 40! Things we need to worry about.

5. Make sure to get your eyes checked and yearly physicals at the doctor. It’s always great to stay ahead of any health issues when it comes to your body.

  1. Getting my kids to eat breakfast before they go to school is a huge challenge. We struggle every day with that.

  2. That wrinkle cream is SOO good – I’ve recently run out, and you just reminded me to get more. Back to school is happening for me this year 😉 What grade is your daughter in? She might be seeing my face soon.

  3. I make my kids read 30 minutes a day even though the summer. so going back to school wasn’t a big struggle. The homework they are bringing home that we have to work into the schedule now is the biggest struggle we have right now.
I agree, being healthy, fit and taking care of our bodies inside and out are a big part of going back to school. If they aren’t taken care of they can detract from being able to focus in school.

  4. These are great tips. My sister forces my nephew to read 30 minutes a day, every day – including summer break. It’s good for him, whether he likes it or not. =D

  5. Love the Johnson’s baby products, I use them not only on my baby but on all my kids. Great selection of products!

  6. Aveeno and Lubriderm are wonderful products! Teaching kids about skin care is a wonderful idea! Especially since they will get so much sun when they are little!

  7. We love gees Healthy Essentials too! The J&J family of brands are just so magnificent,

  8. I love Johnson&Johnson- especially for Addie! I’m glad they started listening to their customers- makes me a way more satisfied shopper! This winter, I hope to keep up on the skin moisturizing! Itchy skin as the weather changes is my pet peeve!

  9. Great tips!! I think they are important for adults to remember to do in their daily life as well!! Reading 30 minutes a day is my favorite and the exercise!

  10. My daughter is four, but I’m already helping her to read simple words and encouraging her to follow along with me as I read her her bedtime stories. It’s a great way to encourage the reading bug.

  11. We usually stick to a routine, but everyone has their own unique tasks. I like sticking to a routine and knowing what to expect for everyone.

  12. I do my level best to get fruits and vegetables into my kids, although some days that easier said than done. I soldier on, though. They need those vitamins.

  13. Great post. It’s so important to keep our children healthy in mind, body, and spirit. I encourage lots of fruits and vegetables in my home.

  14. I just started using the Roc cream. How long should I expect it to take in order to show any noticeable difference?

  15. I have almost all of these brands in my home at any given moment. I love using the Johnson’s products on my kids. They smell so good!

  16. I have Lubriderm lotion by my bathroom sink. I love how thick and moisturizing that is! Great back to school tips!

  17. I love my ROC!

  18. So many great products you have featured! It reminds me just what a busy time of year this is…..there’s so much to take care of. I’m thankful for great products that help a mom out! =)

  19. we prep snacks for the fridge and pantry on sundays. the kids can bring one from each for snack to school. i know they are making healthy choices and they get control!

  20. My daughter hates to brush her hair in the summer. I am always having issues.
