Holiday Gift Guide: Romo, the Robot Companion

Disclaimer: I received the product for review purposes; however, all opinions are mine and mine alone.

I Love Romo by, Romotive

This has to be one of the coolest toys/gadgets I’ve seen in a while! It’s Romo, the amazing robot companion from Romotive. My 9-year old daughter has had her iPod for over a year, and Romo has definitely taken it to a whole new level. She absolutely loves Romo! This robot is fun and educational as well. Kids learn how to program sequences and see them come to life. First, my daughter downloaded the Romo app on her iPod and then just attached her iPod to the Romo device. From there she was able to program in things for her robot to do. It can recognize her and say hi, giggle, get angry, move around, shake, etc. She makes the sequence and Romo executes the actions. It’s like her own little pet or friend to have around. Romo can be used with a computer (using Chrome) or compatible iOS device.  2 versions of Romo are available for different Apple devices:

  • Choose the 5, 5S, 5C version of Romo for your iPhone 5/5S/5C or iPod touch (5th generation)
  • Choose the 4, 4S version to dock your iPhone 4, 4S or iPod touch (4th generation)

ROMO, the Robot Companion

Romo can also act as a spy when you download the Romo Remote Control App on another device (iPhone/iPad). My daughter uses my phone and controls where Romo goes and what it does. It’s cool because she can see on my phone what Romo is seeing. She can send Romo into another room and see what is going on. She did this to watch TV from her bedroom. Sneaky…

ROMO Control App

Downloading the Remote Control App to Your Device is EASY!

When Romo is in “spy mode,” my daughter can also take pictures of what Romo is seeing. She can send in Romo to spy on her brother and take a photo of him when he doesn’t know it. If he’s doing anything wrong, then she can bust him and show mom and dad! I think using Romo as a spy is definitely her favorite thing to do. She loves using the remote control.

We Love ROMO

Another great feature of Romo is that you can invite family or friends anywhere in the world to drive your Romo while streaming two-way video and audio. This is fun to stay connected to family and friends this way. Just think, if a parent is away on a business trip, Romo can help that parent come into the kid’s room and virtually say goodnight.  We’ve had a few of my daughter’s friends come over to play with Romo and every single one of them said they were adding it to their Christmas list! I think Santa is going to be delivering Romo to many houses this year! Girls and boys alike love Romo! It keeps them entertained for hours and gets them excited about robotics. I love getting my kids toys/gadgets that they love and that are educational as well. You can get Romo at Brookstone for $149.99. I highly recommend the Romo App-Controlled Robotic Pet/Companion for iOS Devices! Make sure to check out Romotive on Facebook and Twitter for news and updates! Check out my daughter sharing some of what she loves to do with her Romo (who she actually named Cutie):

  1. Oh my gosh!! What a cool gadget! I definitely want one of these, sadly, we don’t have iphones 🙁

  2. That’s such a cute idea. It looks so fun! (I love that goofy grin with the teeth!)

  3. That is so neat! I’m amazed with the great gift options available for kids nowadays!

  4. That sounds really neat although we don’t have iphones here. I do think they should find a way to make it compatible with all iphones though. For someone to spend that money on one for their iphone 4 and then alter upgrade to an iphone 5, then they’d have to buy a new romo.

  5. That’s so cool!! No iphones in our house though. We’re android fans 😉

  6. I saw Romo back in February at the NYC Toy Fair and then again in June at NYC CES. I loved it. So glad it is finally on sale.
