Preparing for the First Day of Kindergarten with Tag from LeapFrog

Kindergarten is Just Around the Corner
~ We are Tuning Up Our Skills Before the Big Day ~
As you read in one of my recent posts, I talked about how my baby will be going to kindergarten. I will now only have big kids in the house, ages 5 and 8. My son is nervous and excited all at once. He did attend preschool for two years, so he is used to going to school ~ but now he’ll be at the BIG school.
As a former teacher of eight years, I know it’s important to keep up your kids’ skills up over the summer months. I know the summer slide theories are true, but I also know kids need a break and to get outside as well. That’s why I like to find fun things for my kids to do to slip in some educational lessons without them knowing it.
Tag ~ Get Ready for Kindergarten is one of those things! The Tag by LeapFrog is an awesome tool for kids to use to practice their skills. It’s fun and interactive! The kids can practice it on their own or together with you. Drew and I like to play with it together. He loves all the different lessons in the book and loves to show me when he gets something right. It’s so cute!

The things we love about the Get Ready for Kindergarten are the variety of skills to practice. Some of these include: phonics skills, math skills, using calendars, vowel sounds, dinosaur facts, syllables, rhyming, and more. Just name it and the kids can learn it in this book! These are many of the topics kids will be introduced to when kindergarten starts, so it’s nice to give them that added confidence that they know something before school starts. If school has started for you, then it’s still not too late. This book will reinforce what will be taught, and getting kids to practice at home willingly is half the battle. Remember, when kids are having fun they don’t even realize they are learning. WIN for the kids and WIN for mom and dad!

Drew also likes the Tag because it play music, encourages him when he gets answers correct, and he can even plug his headphones into it if he wants to.

  8. I have thought about getting these for my 5 year old daughter, but my mother informed me of the fact that my brother and I both had something very similar when we were kids, and it didn’t help us one bit when it came to learning to read. I think I may get one for her anyway, since it’s encouraging and sounds more advanced than something I would have had 15-20 years ago. Thanks for the great review.
