Our Trip ~ Day Three “Headin’ to Maine!”

Family Vacation ~ From New Hampshire to
Maine Country
Bring on the Lobsters! We are headed to Maine! As you read on Day One and Day Two of our vacation, we have been hanging out in New Hampshire looking at the town and visiting Story Land. The kids had an absolute blast there and are dying to go back already. Today we started the day in quaint little North Conway, NH. It’s such a gorgeous little town in the valley of the White Mountains. The downtown Main Street area has cute little shops, restaurants, a play area for kids, and a train station. We spent a few hours there this morning looking around, buying things, and eating lunch at a The Met Coffee House & Fine Art Gallery, a cute little cafe/coffee shop. It was a wonderful time!

Next, we got in the car and headed to Portland, ME. You have to take one-lane highways to get there, but it’s not bad at all. I get car sick (ie. as well as sea sick, motion sick, pregnancy sick, you name it), so I decided to take some medication and get Sea Bands for my wrists. They worked great, and the ride on the back roads were not too bad! It took less than two hours to get to Portland, ME. Once there we checked into the Embassy Suites (review to come), and then headed to the Old Downtown area in Portland.

The Old Downtown in Portland is very cute. It reminds me a lot of Montreal, Canada with the cobblestone streets, shops, restaurants, brick buildings, some highrises, and waterfront. We decided to eat dinner at the Portland Lobster Co. Hubby got the 1 lb. lobster, I ended up getting the veggie burger and shrimp cocktail, and the kids had hot dogs. The food was good, and we ate on the deck. It would have been nicer if it wasn’t almost 90 degrees out, but great fresh seafood anyway. We also walked around the streets after dinner and just took in the feel of the city.

Tomorrow we have plans to visit the Children’s Museum of Maine, possibly take a ferry to an island, and walk around the shops again. We liked the Black Dog store, so we’ll probably head back there. Posting again tomorrow night! Thanks for following along as I travel through New England! If you’ve been to Portland, are there any must see things I need to do?
