Day Five ~ Visited Freeport, ME

Family Vacation ~ LL Bean, Maine Coast, Lobsters, and Whoopie Pies
Freeport, Maine Coastline

Today was a fun day as we headed to Freeport, Maine to visit the LL Bean Stores and Outlets. We also decided to check out a State Park for lunch to picnic on the coast. Freeport was absolutely gorgeous. The outlets actually looked quaint as they were set on a Main Street USA type setting, and the LL Bean stores were awesome! They were HUGE and had everything you could want. The quality of the items were amazing, and the children’s play area was so fun. Kendal practiced tying knots she learned in Girl Scouts. Drew played with some stuffed lobsters (he is now obsessed with them). It was also cool to visit the stores because this year is their 100th anniversary! The stores are filled with historic facts and old items on display. I bought a book that covers LL Bean over the last 100 years!

After LL Bean we shopped in a bunch of the outlets, got lunch to go, and headed for the coast. We went to a State Park and ate at the picnic tables and then headed down to the water. Kendal, Drew, and Tony searched for green crabs along the waterline. It was gorgeous there!

We also grabbed some Whoopie Pies from Wicked Whoopies in Freeport before we headed back to Portland. We saved them for dessert. For dinner we ate at a local diner called Becky’s Diner right on the water. Rachel Ray had been there for her show $40 a Day! Also, Guy Fieri had also visited there for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The restaurant was FABULOUS! Tony got lobster again and I got scallops. The kids had a blast sitting next to the lobster tank. I totally recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area! Great food, affordable, and fun for the whole family. The people that worked there were super nice too!

After dinner we went to a park overlooking the water and checked out the lobster boats on the water. We really got the feel of Maine down by the piers. Drew especially loved seeing the lobster boats and traps. When we got back to the hotel it was time for the Whoopie Pies, Maine’s Official Treat (definitely the highlight of the day for the kids)!
