Mama Luvs Books: It’s My Birthday……I Can Cry If I Want To!

Today’s My B-day ~ Another Year Older
Mama Luvs Books
So I guess I should be crying as I’m another year closer to 40. Today I turned 38 and believe it or not I was not even sure how old I actually was until a couple weeks ago when I did the math. My husband thought it was hilarious because all of a sudden I said, “Wait, I’m 37 going on 38, not 38 already! Phew!” I swear after age 35 it is hard to keep up. I have to subtract my birth year from the current year. It was nice gaining an extra year back once I realized my actual age.
In any case, I think aging is not so bad after all. I really like where I am in life. I have a wonderful husband and two amazing kids. I live in a fun and supportive town in Rhode Island, and I am blessed to be able to stay-at-home with my kids. Life is good. 38 is good. Life was much more difficult while growing up and getting through high school and college. As fun as those times can be, they can also be times of uncertainty and struggle. You have to grow into who you want to be and discover yourself. I remember discovering that I could be myself and if people don’t like me for that, then they are not worth being friends with. That was a good realization and lesson to learn and made life much easier. I also found out that I could speak in front of people and be confident, hence what lead to my career in teaching. Aging has brought to me the confidence to be me and enjoy who I am as a person.
I’ve also learned that after having kids that family and your health truly are everything. Sometimes I overreact at small problems and have to remind myself and refocus on this lesson. I am blessed with a great family and good friends and no matter what other challenges are thrown at me this is what really matters most.
So this birthday is a happy one! I will not be crying that I’m a year older, but rejoicing that I had another wonderful year with the ones I love and I can look forward to another year as well. Aging is all a mindset. If you feel happy, young at heart, and good with who you are…….age is just a number. I may change my mind about this as the years go on, but this is how I feel now.
How Do You Feel About Aging?

  1. Happy Birthday! =) Glad you see that age is just a number and you can still be young at heart but yet age has made you who you are today! =) You are a wonderful mom (guessing), wife (guessing) and a blogger! Keep your head up and keep up the good work! You have acheived a lot in your years and you still have many more to come!

  2. Happy Birthday! I remember turning 18. I was a bank teller at the time – I remember standing at my teller station and crying – I was just so beside myself. When I look back now – that was crazy. Now that I’m fifty, I worry so much about how many years I really have left…the anxiety over that thought is REALLY over-whelming for me. I think my biggest fear is not being with my kids. I’ve always said, if I knew I was dying, I’d take my son who is disabled with me. I’ve had people do abusive things to him – right in front of me – people who work for in-home care agencies and residential homes where he’s been for respite. I can’t even fathom what someone might do if I wasn’t here to step in – to protect him.

  3. I totally agree! Age is just a number. Live life and be happy! I’m glad you are happy with where you are in life. Happy birthday!

Happy late Birthday! Age is as you said just a number.I’m 47 and I’m happy.I had a journey last yr when I had hodgkins lymphoma stage 2. I had 5 1/2 months of chemo and nuprigin shots. It wasn’t fun but it has made me a stronger person. It has also made me realize hair is so overrated.Lol! Mine is slowly coming back.I have other issues none life threatening.Just the kind that come with a back injury and menopause. All you young people out there enjoy being young because menopause SUCKS!! Lol! I think wisdom comes with age.God and my family got me through that journey. I hope you had an awesome b-day.God Bless!

  6. Happy Birthday!! Well, I will be 62 in a couple of months and I am not sure I like that thought cause I sure as heck do not feel that old!! Sure I am getting some extra aches and pains but I tend to ignore them–You are still young–ENJOY

  7. Happy Birthday! How do I feel about aging…well we all age so enough said!

  8. Happy birthday!! I have to say I feel the same way about aging – I am happy where I am (mostly) I don’t want to be a lost little kid anymore. I think the secret really is aging with grace, and when we accept the fact that the years come no matter what we do, we can manage it all gracefully!!

  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! My friend- you are aging well! Age is just a number- you don’t look a day over 30- for real!!!

  10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! you still look young and beautiful!

  11. You’re not the only one who forgets how old they are. My mom use to forget when I was younger and I couldn’t understand how someone could forget that. Now I do it. I enjoy getting older, I feel wiser and feel better than I did in my much younger days. You look fabulous and you have a great looking family. Happy Birthday!!

  12. Happy birthday! I am 38 year and will be 39 in Sept. 40 scares me — my husband said that’s middle aged — yuck!

  13. Awah! Great post. Happy Birthday!! I love getting older because we lose the lust for frivolity and find meaning in the things that matter most.

Love your attitude about age, I wish you a great year of experience and fun at being alive. Dad

  15. Happy Birthday! I try to follow the advice I gave my daughter. She was upset about leaving her beloved grammer school as she headed for high school. That life marches on whether we like it or not. Hopefully, if you try to enjoy one day at a time, you will look back on a lifetime of good memories. As long as I stay healthy Im OK with aging.

  16. Happy Birthday to You! I think that you are young to me! I am 55 going on 56! I think you look great!

  17. Happy Birthday :0)
I decided I’m not having birthday’s anymore….since everyone forgets mine anyways there’s no real point right?
So no Birthday…no aging….thus I stay the same age….and around here I get carded for everything so I still feel young :0)

  18. Happy birthday! I think you have a wonderful view on your birthdays and situation. There is SO much to be grateful for! I don’t mind aging at the moment. No one takes me seriously because I’m so ‘young’. I just want to be skinny before too long. I don’t want to spend all of my 20s being fat!

Happy Birthday!! The happiest time in my life as been in my 40’s!!

  20. Honestly its just a number to me, It’s I don’t care for birthdays more because I hate celebrating anything, especially me.

Every year since I have turned about 30 I sit back and reflect on the blessings and positive that came out of the year, and appreciate what has been done, and think If I was younger would I really appreciate that? So its a good thing.

  21. Hope you have a wonderful birthday!

  22. happy birthday!

  23. Happy Birthday!!!! I’m still in my 20s, but as I get closer to 30, I seem to fear it less, hehe.

  24. Happy birthday! You are only 5 months and 1 day older than I am!! So you’ll get no age jokes from me. 🙂
