Johnson & Johnson “Amazing Nurses Contest” ~ Nominate A Nurse You Know Today!

Johnson & Johnson “Amazing Nurses Contest”
Johnson&Johnson

Nurses are such AMAZING people! If you’ve ever had to be hospitalized for an injury/ailment or had a child, then you know how important nurses are to the medical field. Nurses are the ones who take care of you, check on you regularly, get you anything you need, and talk to you if you have questions or you just need someone to talk to. It’s crazy that right now there is a shortage in the field of nursing. In fact, the shortage is so bad that there is currently a nationwide vacancy of over 100,000 positions and that is expected to grow to 800,000 by the year 2020! That is huge! Especially with life expectancy and the world population on the rise, more people are needed in the nursing profession! I guess that’s a good thing for college students who are entering the field.
Thinking back to times when nurses have been especially helpful to me, I can definitely think about nurses that helped when both my little ones were born. The nurses in labor and delivery are just one of a kind. Amazing people! I had so many fears with my first child, and the nurses were so great in calming me down and making it a wonderful experience for me. With the birth of my second child, I can really remember the nurses that helped me! I birthed my son with a normal delivery. He was almost 10 lbs and healthy, so all was good. Then we were discharged and went home with him. Everything was great!

I remember starting to feel not well within a couple of days of being home. I lost my appetite completely, and then I had a stabbing pain in the middle of my stomach. I called my OB and she said to go back into the hospital. Of course I was so upset because I had a newborn at home that I was breastfeeding and did not want to leave him! I went in late at night and found out I needed emergency surgery. I had appendicitis. I was back in the hospital for a few days all alone. The nurses helped by talking to me, finding pumps for me to get milk for my son, and by setting up feeding times so my husband could bring him to the hospital. It was such a difficult time, but the nurses helped to make it so much better. I don’t know what I would have done without their constant encouragement and dedication to helping others.

If I had one nurse in particular that I can think of as being a caring and strong individual that is dedicated to the nursing profession and helping others, I would definitely choose my cousin Mary. She is a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at a hospital in PA. She is a mom of three wonderful kids, amazing wife, one-of-a-kind nurse, and she does it all with maintaining her own health issues. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in her late 30’s and still continued her night shifts, managed her home and work life, as well as learning about how to manage the challenges of these new health issues she was dealing with. I don’t know a more dedicated, caring, and wonderful person and nurse than my cousin. I hope she knows how appreciated she is as a NICU nurse.

My cousin and I - Johnson & Johnson Amazing Nurses

(*Eligible Nominees for the Amazing Nurses contest must be a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) who currently administers direct patient care.)
A 2011 Gallup Poll announced that the public voted nurses number one for โ€œhonesty and ethical standards of various professionsโ€ for the eighth consecutive year. Nurses offer patients comfort, care and skill that is desperately needed in patient care. The time is now to encourage and celebrate this important role in our healthcare system, so make sure to nominate your nurse of choice TODAY for this honor and to recognize the dedication they provide to the nursing profession! Let’s spread the word about nursing in our community and hopefully close the shortage gap. Go and nominate YOUR special nurse today!ย

I would nominate all the nurses at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in St. Johnsbury VT., From Dr. Krubica’s head nurse Heidi, to the group of Infusion Nurse’s, all have played A MAJOR role in my husbands chemo treatments for over a year and half. He continues to be treated and all of the nurses go out of there way to keep spirits up, treatment as comfortable as can be, and are the most compassionate group of women/nurses we have dealt with throughout this ordeal. They have played a major role in keeping my husband alive and fighting!!

  37. lacie lair says:

  38. Tina Louise says:

I would nominate my Mom. She has been a nurse my whole life (plus a few more). She works in a nursing home which I think can be the hardest job of all.

  39. This is such a wonderful way to honor the hardworking men & women in nursing. They work long hours, often short handed, deal with everyone from patients, to families, to doctors, etc and pretty much do it all (most of the time doctors are only in for a few minutes once or twice a day). They are often the ones who notice complications first.

  40. thanks!

  41. Cassandra Tucker says:

Thanks for posting, my mom is a wonderful nurse and my aunt is becoming one!

  42. Thank you for sharing your Amazing Nurse and this contest all together. I will have to take a look into this contest because my sister is a nurse and the first in my family to complete college and go into a great career. I agree that nurses are great and do so much for people!

  43. I know the perfect person to nominate…what a great idea!

  44. Ashley Mullins says:

Thats awesome! Nurses are amazing people. I am actually starting classes in August for my RN degree. After the my associates degree I will be working towards my Bachelors. My mother was a Respiratory Therapist for years and transitioned into Nursing. She worked almost 30 years in Hospitals and private clinics. Healthcare workers, especially nurses, are most of the time taken for granted. Its a thankless job, so it is amazing when this like this are done for them.

  45. Like teachers nurses are underrated. I started to go to school for nursing, finished almost 2 yrs; but then I had to quit because my daughter was having difficulties. To this day I still say I want to become a nurse. Not sure it will ever happen though ๐Ÿ™
I did home care and worked as a aide for a few years and LOVED it!!
I have had some wonderful experiences with nurses … they truly are a life line for a patient.
What a wonderful contest this is … I am sure a very deserving person will win !
Thank you for sharing your story!

  46. I have been a nurse for over twenty years, and now my daughter in law is one! I am so proud of her, but I was especially excited to see so many males in her class. In my class we had two males, quite the rarity. In my dil’s class, they had ten! No matter if they be males or females, we for sure need all the nurses we can get. As a group, we are over-worked and frequently underpaid as well. As hospitals and doctors look to hire cheaper, less qualified staff, the nurses are forced to be responsible for more and more patients, with less and less hands-on time. I am all for any recognition given the many great nurses out there. I know who I will be nominating!

  47. this is a great thing for them to do!

  48. Thank you for the post! I am actually going back to school to become a Nurse. ๐Ÿ™‚ So many have helped me and my family in my life, and I want to help others like they have helped me. Nurses are taking over so many tasks that Doctors used to do exclusively, and they are better trained in dealing with people and caring than Doctors.

  49. Thank you for the post! nurses hold a special place in my heart, my mom was a nurse and most of my family are nurses! I always wanted to be a nurse, but I’m horrible at math! ๐Ÿ™

  50. I’m happy Johnson & Johnson is doing this for nurses. Nurses go above and beyond for their patients. We have home nurses and the ones we deal with at Children’s Hospital are amazing. It would be hard to just pick one. But I think I know.

  51. When I had my son 3 months early there was an amazing nurse in the NICU. She was wounderful to my son, my husband, myself and our families. Trust me it was very hard to leave he at the hospitol when I came home. But she made it some what easier and was very nice whenever I would wake up in the middle of the night and wanted to call and check on him. Thanks nurse Vanessa you are an awesome lady. Also thanks for doing this giveaway.

  52. My Grandmother was a Nurse, and my sister followed in her footsteps!!

  53. I think nurses have a thankless job, so many patients forget that majority of their care has been from a nurse not just the doctor. I have been trying to convince my husband to go into this job field, he would be great at it and with the shortage he would be benefiting not only our family but the medical field as well. If I could have I would have become a nurse as well, I think they are the backbone to the medical community.

  54. My Aunt was a Nursing Administrator for Special Adults for 20-something years. She was very dedicated and loved her work. Nurses are very special!

  55. This is a beautiful post, especially about your dear nurse Mary. Nurses are extra special to me as my mother is a nurse!

  56. Holly Hennessy Swint says:

This is a great contest. We have a nurse coming to the house every other day to attend to my husband who is recovering from major surgery and she is great!

  57. I will plan to nominate a nurse.

  58. This is awesome because my niece is a great nurse. What a great idea.

  59. My sister Natalie is my favorite Nurse!

  60. Amazing!!! My entire family has been in the medical profession since before I was born (50 years) and I love Nurses best!!! They need to be recognized for the way they go over and above the call of duty!!! Thanks for posting about this!

  61. I loved being a nurse and I have been helped by so many nurses. Thanks for sponsoring so many nurses.

    lpninpain at gmail dot com

  62. Awesome that you are sponsoring nurses, my best friend used to be a nurse and she still helps me out!

  63. Karen Skinner says:

That is wonderful! I know a couple great nurses!

  64. Anonymous says:

I have such a big respect for nurses. They have to put up with so many disrespectful people even though they are there to help! At te same time though there are amazing patients who are great to their nurses.

  65. Katrin Flores says:

That’s such a wonderful thing you’re doing for the nurses! Hearing from parents.. it’s a hardworking job ๐Ÿ™‚

  66. If my grandmother were alive I would nominate her for her efforts during the war. There are many nurses in my family and I love them all and respect what they do!

  67. Jennifer Dysart says:

Great story! My family is full of nurses so this resonated with me a lot, I feel it is harder to find ones so dedicated anymore, but they are out there and deserve so much support and appreciation!

  68. Anonymous says:

Wonder if we could nominate nursing aides – mia

  69. Anonymous says:

I think this is a great story. My aunt was a nurse for years before she passed away. I worked in the healthcare field for 15 years until I was laid off. I would nominate her if she was still alive.

  73. I love this idea of honoring nurses everywhere! I have a ton of friends and family that are nurses that should be honored. It would be hard to choose just one.

  74. My mom was a nurse … Nurses are Awesome!

  75. I am currently in school to become a labor and delivery nurse! My Dad was terminally ill for many years so I can’t wait to help out families like nurses helped us throughout the years before he passed away.

  76. Hi this is the greatest thing. The NURSES never get enough respect. They have the hardest work. The nurses do all the work and the doctors get paid for it. I am not a Nurse however, i have been in the hosp. to many times. THANKS to all the Nurses in the world. joannie jscddmj[at]aol[dot]com

  77. my mom is a nurse i have a lot of respect for them all

  78. It takes a special person to be a nurse! This Nominate A Nurse Project is a terrific idea! It’s only a shame that all nurses don’t receive an award. They are kind and compassionate, and do ALL the work! In my opinion, they should get paid as much as the doctors! I have three nurses in my family and my sister in law is the Head Rn in the Surgical Neurology Ward. I admire their dedication and hard work!

  79. My aunt is a nurse, and my cousin is going to school for nursing. I have a lot of respect for what they do, it takes a lot.
