Yes, I Have A House FULL of Pets!!!

Well, I definitely MUST be a sucker for baby animals. It’s very hard for me go into Rumford’s Pet Store in Warwick, RI and hold the puppies without wanting to take one home, but that’s the ritual I have with the kids after shopping at Trader Joe’s. I always give in and say, “Okay, we can just take a quick look!” Holding the puppies is where you really get yourself into trouble though. They look at you with those sad eyes, and you just want to take them home.

Having kids = having more pets (they always want one). At Clowntown last year we won two fish (Lizzie and Fish were their names).  Fish died, but Lizzie lasted OVER a year! Unfortunately, Lizzie passed away this morning (she caught Ick). All the others had their “burial at sea” in the bathroom, but since Lizzie was special we took her to Goddard Park and actually DID give her a “burial at sea” this morning. My daughter was of course devastated for a little while, until we went to May Fair at the Swift Gym about an hour later and she got to ride ponies and hold bunnies. I’ll have to admit, the bunnies were really cute. My daughter stayed in the bunny cage for over an hour, and then the lady announced that you could take one home for only $15! I looked at my daughter smile from ear-to-ear, and then I held the bunny and looked into its little eyes (huge mistake) and gave in! Fish gone in the morning, and rabbit added to the family by the afternoon. I think I may regret this, but the kids (and even my husband) were sure excited about our new family member, Skrubby the Bunny. I’m a sucker for baby animals!!! What can I say?

  1. I understand, I wound up with 3 cats and if it was up to my son we’d have tons more LOL

  2. We’ve got 2 dogs, 2 cats, 5 chickens and 2 25 gallon fish tanks. That is on top of our 3 kids. Yep, I’m a sucker!

  3. Clarissa D says:

My parents have had cycles when I lived at home, right now they have 5 dogs and 3 cats, it used to be 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 bird, and a rat. lol! I have to literally stay away or I know I would be the same way – we have two cats now.

  4. I am sure I am going to be a sucker too! I had to laugh though- I can see you keep running to the pet shop! The burial with the hubby was very cute!

  5. Oh my word, I’m such a sucker when it comes to animals! If I had my way I’d have a house full of puppies. I can’t even watch those pound commercials because they make me cry. Thanks for sharing about your animals – cute pics!

  6. My mom used to be a huge sucker for pets! At one point when I was a teenager we had seven cats and three dogs in our house! We had exposed beams in our living room, and there was literally cats hanging from the rafters!

  7. Sucker for pets? Um YES! I have ALWAYS been an animal lover!! Yours are beautiful!

  8. Wow I can’t believe you’ve had a goldfish for a year! Mine never made it past a week!! I used to be a sucker for pets when I was younger. Their essentials always do jack up the price. You can’t really ‘take him home for just $15’ if you want him to survive, lol…

  9. I can totally see this happening in our home as our son gets older! Right now we just have one dog- but he alone takes up a lot of time!!

  10. We have one outdoor cat. Just say no!!! 😉

  11. We have two dogs. One was mine before my husband and I got married. The other was inherited from my husband’s former roommate. I would have a house full of animals but my husband is not as easy to convince. Now, animals on the outside, that we have tons of. Granted they are cows and while they are cute, they are far from cuddly!

  12. Yep. I’m a sucker, too. With 4 kids, I have plenty of help convincing Hubby that we need more critters. At the moment, we have: 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 pygmy goats (YES, pet goats!), 2 bearded dragons, 2 60 gallon fish aquariums FULL of fish that don’t know anything about birth control, 1 box turtle & 3 tortoises (2 of which will be over 200 pounds when they’re done growing!). Our bird passed away 2 weeks ago, so I sense another pet coming soon …

  13. We used to have 3 cats, 2 dogs, a snake, and a tarantula. Now we just have a dog and 2 cats. I’m pretty much done with pets. When these die I’m done.
